IslamicInfo Database

Islamic and Legal Studies Database (IslamicInfo)

Islamic sciences are among the richest fields in terms of intellectual production, developed over fourteen centuries since the mission of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, until today. This has made them one of the largest—if not the largest—bodies of religious intellectual output in the world.

IslamicInfo, the first specialized Arabic database in Islamic and legal studies, was created to bring together this vast body of material published in specialized scholarly journals and periodicals, and to facilitate access for researchers and scholars across the world. Given the close connection between legal and Sharia studies, the database has also expanded to cover all legal and judicial subjects in their various branches.

Database Coverage:

The Islamic and Legal Sciences Database includes nearly all specialized scholarly journals, academic periodicals, and annual publications in its field, published in Arabic across both Arab and non-Arab countries, in full text. It also includes the proceedings and research papers of conferences and seminars published in Arabic. The database covers Arabic periodical literature in Islamic and legal sciences from 1924 to the present.

The database covers a wide range of Islamic and legal disciplines, including jurisprudence, principles of jurisprudence, comparative fiqh, schools of Islamic law, acts of worship, fatwas, inheritance law, Hadith, biographical evaluation, creed, sects and doctrines, monotheism, Qur’anic sciences, exegesis, Qur’anic readings, Tajweed, the Prophet’s biography, Sufism, judiciary, civil law, criminal law, personal status law, courts, and many other related subjects.

All research materials included in IslamicInfo are stored in PDF format, identical to the original printed version. Users may view these digitized documents, print them, or save a copy for their personal use at a later time.

The modern search interfaces of IslamicInfo, designed in accordance with international standards in the field of information services, are among the database’s most valuable features. They successfully combine precision with ease of use. The search interface offers several search methods, including Basic Search and Advanced Search. Basic Search provides the quickest and easiest solution for new or inexperienced users, while Advanced Search is the preferred choice for experienced researchers because of its enhanced capabilities and advanced techniques through specific fields such as author, article title, article subject, keywords, source (journal/conference), abstract, and more. These fields may also be searched as exact phrases rather than as separate words.

Among the advanced features provided by the database is the use of Boolean operators such as OR, NOT, and AND, along with filters that refine search results according to the user’s needs, such as filtering by date or material type. Results can also be sorted by title, author, or date, in addition to other advanced search and retrieval tools. The database allows users either to search within specific journals or to conduct a simultaneous comprehensive search across all journals at once. Once search results are retrieved, users may display them in either a brief summary format or a detailed format containing the full bibliographic record for each item. For more information about search methods, users may consult the guide on how to search the database.

Another outstanding feature of IslamicInfo is the ability to export the bibliographic data of research items gathered through search results into the reference lists of the user’s own research. These bibliographic records may be viewed, saved, copied, or printed according to internationally recognized citation styles such as APA, MLA, Turabian, and Chicago.
